Mecca Maxima–Brisbane’s new beauty wonderland!

mecca maxima wintergarden brisbane opening

Recently I was invited to attend the opening of Mecca Maxima, located in Brisbane’s new Wintergarden Centre. Walking through the doors I immediately felt right at ‘home’ with the luxe and almost rock inspired interior. Featuring more than 75 national and international brands, from budget friendly to luxe and everything in-between I would pretty much guarantee there is a product, or 10, for everyone.

So what makes Mecca Maxima Stand out from regular department counters, the choice oftoo faced at mecca maxima course! Lets face it I’m a brand whore. I like trying products from all brands and the thought of only using one brand forever is not something I’m interested in. at. all. Having staff that are able to help you with information across numerous brands is a major plus because they aren’t there to push one brand. Just tell them what you are looking for and they can help you compare and select. One brand may do awesome primers, cough Smashbox cough, while another may have the perfect eye primer, insert Too Faced Shadow Insurance here. Looking for a certain shade of lipstick? Just browse through the brands and swatch as you go to compare. That’s another bonus, if you like to browse by yourself there are testers everywhere.

maxima loves glow staff picksAll brands are displayed separately and on the end of the isle’s are fabulous Maxima Loves displays that feature a couple of similar products with descriptions and prices to help you see what’s right for you.

During the ‘event’ we were able to browse the isles by ourselves and there was more than enough staff on hand to answer any questions or just have a bit of a chat about all things beauty. Like I said at the start there is pretty much something for everyone, hair care, fragrance, nails, makeup, skincare and tools, its all there

Items I picked up on the night (pictured below) include Smashbox’s new Be Legendary Lipsticks in Vivid Violet and Infrared (new favourites!), Stilla’s Smudge Pot in Black Cat which is a gorgeous shimmery black, Kit Nail Strips in an adorable heart shaped pattern that I am actually wearing right now, Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara that has a super fat wand and has been working great, 2 Kit Nail Polishes in Dive In and Power Up, Curl Up heart shaped sponge rollers – holly hell these were just too cute not to purchase and some nifty no crease clips which if you have hair as damaged as mine you know how easily hair can crease when you pin it back even just for a few moments.

The other items pictured where in the gift bag (which I believe was a promotional item for spending over $50) with some pretty fab samples including Soap and Glory Hand Food, Origins Plantscription Anti-aging eye treatment, Smashbox Photo Finish Luminizing Primer, Lancôme Hypnose Drama Mascara, Stilla Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser, a Kit Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Maybe Just Once that is minty fresh and a pack of fun nail strips!

I honestly don’t think I have anything negative to say about the store, well except maybe that your wallet could easily get quite a beating as it is literally a beauty lovers dream store.

I given a generous gift card to spend at the opening but I also spent some of my own cash. Thanks again to Mecca for including me and a fabulous time!

A Night of The Theatre of the Nameless–Illamasqua Event

Illamasqua Promo picture courtesy of Illamasqua with by Alex BoxJust released this week Illamasqua’s new collection Theatre of the Nameless for Autumn/ Winter 2011 was previewed to us on Tuesday night. Arriving at the Brisbane Myer, the MUA’s and counter were all decked out in their fabulous collection inspired looks along with three models for demonstrations of the products at work! We were greeted and given the new collections catalogue, which btw they are always filled with stunning looks, collection and product information. I also finally got to meet the lovely Mandi in person who has taken over from Christabel recently.

illamasqua counter manager tiarahTo start off Tiarah (counter manager, look inspired by ‘the poet Sebastian’) spoke about the inspiration behind the collection –  A modern interpretation of the illicit underworld of 1920’s subcultures of Berlin.

In particular Anita Berber an infamous German performer and prostitute and one of her husbands Sebastian Droste who was a poet and dancer. Their marriage was short but notorious. Together they led a life of excess and rebellion, travelled, performed, published a book of poetry, photographs and drawings but Droste ultimately betrayed her. (more…)

January Jones wearing NARS at the Mad Men 4 Premiere

Fabiloa created this look for January and drew inspiration from Catherine Denvue – creating strong eyes and a simple, matte lip.  Not to mention flawless skin!

Nars Pro Prime Skin Smoothing Face Prep and Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

Nars Brousse Duo Eyeshadow and Eurydice Duo Eyeshadow

Nars Douceur Blush

Nars Bangkok Pure Matte Lipstick (which apparently she loved so much she kept it!)

I quite like Ms Jones style, she always seems to be up for something new. I’m assuming to stay away from the 60’s Hollywood glamour she is seen so regularly in on the show.

Of course Nars is available exclusively to Mecca Cosmetica in Australia,

P.S. I was so excited to see the 1st episode of Season 4 and it certainly lived up to my expectations!

Any one else a Mad Men fan ?
