Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer’s – Lip swatches and review

Finally I have swatches of all of the new(ish) Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer’s, I had actually been waiting for these to hit our shores for a while and they have been on high rotation in my bag since they arrived in my letterbox.

Generally  I get 3 hours out of the lighter shades and about 4-5 hours on the brighter ones, with shine really fading at 1-2 hours for both. I would say this is average for me with a liquid lip type product that isn’t a long wearing formula. These do leave lip marks, but not all the colour comes off at once.  The Apocalips feel smooth and rather light on the lips, very comfortable to wear, and as long as I don’t apply too much I don’t have any feathering issues. Great bendy doe foot applicator with a little dip in the middle that actually does scoop out the perfect amount for me. They retail at $15.95 and I have seen them on sale at Priceline quite a bit so you’ll no doubt get them cheaper.

The below swatches are straight from the tube with the applicator. (more…)

Illamasqua Product Overview – Part 1

I’ve used Illamasqua products in a few tutorials here and there (one coming up too!), but here is a quick run down of a couple of products. This will be part one and the second will be posted in a few weeks!

illamasqua swatches

L to R : Illamasqua Illuminator Halcyon, Illamasqua Lipstick Liv, Illamasqua Lipstick Flare, Illamasqua Cream Pigment Mould, Illamasqua Liquid Metal Stoic.

First up is the lovely illuminator Halcyon, besides the swatch I unfortunately couldn’t get great photo’s of it in action. These come in 7.5ml thin tubes, they may look small but this is one of those products that a small amount really does go a long way. Since I purchased this I have used it every time I’ve done my makeup, the glimmering nude gold shade is a perfect highlight for me and I love it! The texture is creamy, spreads evenly and stays put. I definitely want to try more of these!

Next up is two lipsticks- Live and Flare(NEWISH Toxic Nature Collection), both are creamy long wearing and unbelievably pigmented! Usually when I find a lipstick that is long wearing on me I find that they dry out my lips, but not with these. Even after I take it off my lips still feel soft and supple. I would recommend having your lips in a good condition before you apply as they can show up flaky spots (see below, my lips are not in awesome condition!) when worn without gloss, but this is something I’d recommend with all lipsticks. And as with any orange based lip products they don’t exactly brighten your smile, it actually inspired me to start whitening my teeth so it suits me better! Here they are applied to bare lips.

I would say the top swatches are much more accurate colour wise than the lip swatches. Although I love them both I have to keep a close eye on the Liv lipstick as my sister has mentioned numerous times that its just ‘simply her’ colour. (Umm she’s the older sister, shouldn’t I be ‘borrowing things from her?!?)

Onto the Mould Cream Pigment (NEWISH Toxic Nature Collection) and the Stoic Liquid Metal both swatched above. You know I love a multi purpose product and thisillamasqua stioc, 24 lashes is exactly why I like Mould a little more than Stoic. Don’t get me wrong Stoic is stunning on the eyes but Mould is stunning on both the eye’s and the lips! Both of these formulas tend to crease unless a shadow is applied over the top. The only thing that helps them last a little longer for me is by applying them with a fluffy brush and applying in very thin layers. That being said they are stunning as bases (above right, Illamasqua Lashes in 24 also worn) and Mould works perfectly on the lips as either a solid colour or for lip contouring (below, used as subtle eyeliner as well).Mould Lips and Eyeliner

So that’s it for part 1 , part two coming soon and of course the next tutorial (picture left).

Too Faced Pixie Perfect– Swatches

image_thumb1Recently I had the opportunity to try some products from Apothica and one of the things I chose was the Too Faced Pixie Perfect Set. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it, kind of like love at first sight, and I haven’t been disappointed. The set features a Lip gloss in Plush, a mini Shadow Insurance, Lash Injection Mascara, Pixie Perfect Quad and a Blush Duo all in an adorable quilted makeup bag.

Now onto the Swatches, all on bare skin and swatched with a cotton swab.

Here are the swatches on my arms, dry applied on top of the eye and lip primer from the range

MIDNIGHT-TANGELLO

These are the brightest colours from the range.

I really love Skye and Water, they remind me of Marie Antoinette for some reason!

My favourite three colours would have to be Mermaid, Amythest and Tangello

STONE-BAMBOO

The next lot are the neutrals I was sent to try.

Great everyday colours that could easily become staples in your kit.

Bamboo is the perfect matte highlight for me, storm is a lovely greyish taupe and Bark has been my first choice to use on my brows.

Beauty is also gorgeous, its a little darker IRL but just as if not more sparkly!

WHITELIGHT-BLOSSOM

These are some of the lighter colours.

Gold, Apricot and Diamond all look fabulous over other shadows or alone as a light sparkly wash of colour.

White Light is a true pearlescent white.

LOTUS-NATURE

Lotus is the blush I was sent, lovely shimmery pinky blush, best applied on cheek bones and not to far onto the cheeks themselves if you are worried about drawing attention to your pores.

Olive is the perfect name for the shadow, it is exactly what it reminds me of with the addition of a slight shimmer.

Spring is a fresh sparkly green, great for the inner v and lid area. Nature is a shimmery forest green that looks stunning as a liner.

My favourite combinations so far are

Mermaid (lid), Amythest (crease) with Bamboo (highlight)

Tangello (lid), Amythest (crease) with Bamboo (highlight)

Beauty (lid), Onyx (crease), Apricot (inner v) with Bamboo (highlight)

Blossom (lid), Tangello (crease), Wisdom (outer v) with Bamboo to highlight

Bamboo (lid), Stone (outer v) White Light (highlight) with Nature (liner)

Midnight (lid), Skye (crease) Bamboo (highlight)

Yes I may be a little obsessed with Bamboo!

Natio Mineral Range – Swatches

madamebfatale

Australia’s own Natio has just released over a dozen new mineral products to their range.

I was sent these products a couple of weeks ago to test out and have been loving them. Unfortunately I can’t wear the lipstick as I sometimes have a reaction to lavender which this lipstick is full of, so my sister took it and loves the colour! Its a shame because it really is a gorgeous colour. madamebfatale

Here’s a swatch, the colours name is Lip Glow No 4 (sheer dusty pink) , (slightly darker in RL) RRP $15.95

madamebfataleHere are Live (soft pastel pink, slightly on the frosty side) and Soul (rich burgundy red) from the new Full Colour Mineral Lip Gloss range. RRP $15.95

My pick of the these two is Soul, a perfect colour for winter.

Next there are 4 new Mineral Eyeshadow trio’s available in Soft Day (mocha, taupe brulee, soft pink), Smokey Eye (charcoal, mocha, illuminator), Fresh (two soft pinks with creamy taupe) and Subtle Glamour (Shimmery gunshot grey, mauve taupe, gold). RRP $14.95

As you can see on the back are instructions for an effortless look so they really are foolproof!

madamebfatale

These trio’s probably are my pick out of all the new products as they are compact, easy to use (instructions included), a great idea for travel, and the shadows themselves are buttery soft!

The last product I was sent was the Super Long Mascara, I haven’t used this one yet as I already have three mascara’s open so a swatch/review post will come soon! RRP $16.95

Natio never tests on animals, is Australian made and is available from Myer, David Jones, and selected pharmacies.
