Umberto Giannini–Backcomb in a Bottle and Morning After Dry Shampoo Review

Umberto Giannini Backcomb in a Bottle and Morning After Dry Shampoo

Following on from yesterdays post on how to use the Backcomb in a Bottle from Umberto Giannini is todays quick review on it and the Morning After Dry Shampoo.

  • Both the Backcomb in a Bottle (217ml) and the Morning After Dry Shampoo 202ml) retail for $13.99 each and are available in Woolworths stores nationally.
  • The scent of both of the products isn’t overpowering.
  • Gorgeous Packaging throughout 5 product range.

Backcomb in A Bottle

“Directions: Spray from approximately 10cm to where you want backcomb effect and jujj hair into shape as you go.”

  • Not only better for the hair than traditional backcombing but its much quicker as well.
  • Works very well on my long angled bob I have at the moment. It certainly gives my hair a bit of oomph!
  • As my how to showed you yesterday its great to use on straight styles for a grungy style but also works well to create texture for updo’s and works great with curls too.
  • Easy to brush out with a bristle brush.
  • My hair hasn’t been weighed down or left sticky from the product. (With that being said don’t saturate your hair with the product)

Morning After Dry Shampoo

“Directions: Spray approximately 10cm away to roots and work through hair with your hands.”

  • Great product for refreshing 2nd or 3rd day old hair.
  • Quick to use.
  • Its actually a clear spray as opposed to the traditional coloured so no chalky roots!
  • Also can help create volume.
  • Dry shampoo’s are great when travelling.

I have been very happy with both of these products. For me they have done what they claim and the gorgeous packaging sets them apart from a lot of other brands that can be found in your local supermarket. I‘m keen on trying out the other products in the range – Grunge Glamour Tousled Salt Spray, Rock’n’Roll Extreme Hairspray and the Sex Bomb Massive Mouse and they will no doubt be added to my trolley next time I’m at woolie’s.

Mecca Maxima–Brisbane’s new beauty wonderland!

mecca maxima wintergarden brisbane opening

Recently I was invited to attend the opening of Mecca Maxima, located in Brisbane’s new Wintergarden Centre. Walking through the doors I immediately felt right at ‘home’ with the luxe and almost rock inspired interior. Featuring more than 75 national and international brands, from budget friendly to luxe and everything in-between I would pretty much guarantee there is a product, or 10, for everyone.

So what makes Mecca Maxima Stand out from regular department counters, the choice oftoo faced at mecca maxima course! Lets face it I’m a brand whore. I like trying products from all brands and the thought of only using one brand forever is not something I’m interested in. at. all. Having staff that are able to help you with information across numerous brands is a major plus because they aren’t there to push one brand. Just tell them what you are looking for and they can help you compare and select. One brand may do awesome primers, cough Smashbox cough, while another may have the perfect eye primer, insert Too Faced Shadow Insurance here. Looking for a certain shade of lipstick? Just browse through the brands and swatch as you go to compare. That’s another bonus, if you like to browse by yourself there are testers everywhere.

maxima loves glow staff picksAll brands are displayed separately and on the end of the isle’s are fabulous Maxima Loves displays that feature a couple of similar products with descriptions and prices to help you see what’s right for you.

During the ‘event’ we were able to browse the isles by ourselves and there was more than enough staff on hand to answer any questions or just have a bit of a chat about all things beauty. Like I said at the start there is pretty much something for everyone, hair care, fragrance, nails, makeup, skincare and tools, its all there

Items I picked up on the night (pictured below) include Smashbox’s new Be Legendary Lipsticks in Vivid Violet and Infrared (new favourites!), Stilla’s Smudge Pot in Black Cat which is a gorgeous shimmery black, Kit Nail Strips in an adorable heart shaped pattern that I am actually wearing right now, Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara that has a super fat wand and has been working great, 2 Kit Nail Polishes in Dive In and Power Up, Curl Up heart shaped sponge rollers – holly hell these were just too cute not to purchase and some nifty no crease clips which if you have hair as damaged as mine you know how easily hair can crease when you pin it back even just for a few moments.

The other items pictured where in the gift bag (which I believe was a promotional item for spending over $50) with some pretty fab samples including Soap and Glory Hand Food, Origins Plantscription Anti-aging eye treatment, Smashbox Photo Finish Luminizing Primer, Lancôme Hypnose Drama Mascara, Stilla Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser, a Kit Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Maybe Just Once that is minty fresh and a pack of fun nail strips!

I honestly don’t think I have anything negative to say about the store, well except maybe that your wallet could easily get quite a beating as it is literally a beauty lovers dream store.

I given a generous gift card to spend at the opening but I also spent some of my own cash. Thanks again to Mecca for including me and a fabulous time!

Mehron Celebre HD Cream Foundation a Review

MehronHDFoundationOver the past few months I’ve used this foundation numerous times and it fast became a new favourite, the Mehron Celebre HD Pro Cream Makeup.

Applied with a damp sponge or foundation brush the foundation itself is easy to blend and build up to a level of coverage you desire. I also find it works as a regular concealer quite well too. The only time I have actually used a concealer with it is a salmon one under my eyes, it disguises everything else with ease. The end result, a semi-dewy glow (un-powdered of course) which lasts quite a few hours before touch-ups are needed (unless the weather is particularly hot). It also photographs beautifully! (more…)

Indola Innova Repair Capsules – Review

About a month ago I was kindly sent a tub of Indola Innova Repair Capsules to try out, I say kindly because it was a sample sent out after the ABBW that I ended up not being able to attend. So this gift was a lovely surprise.

Its no secret that I absolutely adore hair oils, the shine and moisture I have been able to get back to my (very) over coloured hair from them has been nothing short of amazing. So when these repair capsules arrived I was rather excited to try out another type.

“Long term damage won’t repair itself, so tackle each strand from the roots with Innova Repair shampoos, conditioners, leave-in treatments and repair capsules. Keratin treats in 3 dimensions – the cuticle, fibre and matrix of each strand, boosting strength to promote deep, lasting shine.”

Illamasqua Product Overview Part 4

Today I have part 4 of the Illamasqua products overview check out part 1, part 2 and part 3 if you haven’t already! If you haven’t noticed Illamasqua has to be one of my favourite brands, I always find a product I need!

illamasqua motto eye brow cake

Motto Eye Brow Cake is a warm taupe brow colour perfect for non golden toned blondes. Applied with a light stroke it effortlessly fills in brows for a fuller look, but applied with a mixing medium it gives a very defined brow. The compact also has a handy mirror in the lid for application anywhere. This has been my go to brow colour for a few months now and I’ve found it perfect for my colouring.

The rest of the products are from the Theatre of the Nameless Collection.

are you a FREAK of nature?

illamasqua freak promotional image courtesy of illamasqua This Thursday the 20th of October Illamasqua releases the brands debut unisex fragrance, Freak. For those like myself this launch has been anticipated for quite some time now, and now that time has finally come

“Working with Illamasqua, I’ve had the opportunity to break all creative boundaries, and to create a truly wonderful magical potion. The unique and potent ingredients leave a truly unforgettable trail and that mesmerise the senses.” Azzi Glasser, Illamasqua Perfume Designer

The promotional images for the fragrance are nothing short of breathtaking but that’s something I’ve grown to expect with Illamasqua.

“For me Freak is all of the dangerously sexy parts of Kubrick’s film ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ captured in a bottle. There’s no middle ground with Freak. The name, the packaging and the fragrance will polarise opinion to simply love or hate.” Illamasqua’s Julian Kynaston

Illamasqua Product Overview–Part 3

Today I have part 3 of the Illamasqua products overview check out part 1 and part 2 if you haven’t already!

First up today I have three powder shadows from the brand Angst, Sadist and Fame (L-R).Illamasqua angst sadist fame

All three are matte shadows that apply easily and blend well too! Out of the three Fame is probably the less pigmented one but is still easy to build up on the lid. My favourite of the lot would probably have to be Angst as I don’t have as many reds as I’d like and it looks fabulous in the crease area. It also slightly reminds me of the Laid Cream Blusher (pictured below). These shadows seem to last well, I’d recommend a good base to start off with as they can stain slightly.
