Eye Define–a Review

eye define packagingAs soon as the email hit my inbox about the new to Australia Eye Define I knew I had to give them a go, I was just too curious.
So when the package arrived I could wait to try them. Housed in a cardboard box with a rather impressive before and after shot on the front is 64 medical grade adhesive eye strips and the balm to apply them.

The Eye Define claims to set invisible and can be applied over eye makeup and is meant to last around 8hours (an average working day I guess).

On myself I just couldn’t get these to work properly. No matter where I placed them I could either see them or I would get a strange ‘fold’ in my crease area. I also couldn’t get them to apply over makeup without making the strips more visible. I have a feeling my eyes are drooping or hooded enough for them to work for me so I tried them on my sister. No luck there either so I then turned to my mother. Now on her they worked the best. The below photos are of her eye, just one side applied so you can seethe difference it really does make. The eye with it applied looks open and far better than the one on the left. There is also a shot of her eye closed, I can see the strip but when she was just looking at me normally I didn’t notice it. I ended up applying another to the other eye and she wore them to work overnight. She had to use eye makeup remover to get them off as they were still pretty secure after all those hours. In fact they seemed to last a bit longer than the 8 hours it promises.

This is definitely one of those funny products that make you think what the hell, but while it didn’t work for my sister or myself it did for my mother. It opened up and lifter her eyes in no time and at $29.95 (+postage and handling) it is a hell of a lot cheaper than surgery!

So this may not be for everyone but it was certainly worth a try!

Products I’ve been using– Face and Body

I guess I should start off by saying Happy New Year and I hope everyone has had a lovely time throughout the holidays!

power white toothpaste witch hazel facial scrub

Starting off with the Power White Toothpaste* I was gifted in the Lust Have it bag at BBU. I started to use this last month and its definitely helping, especially considering I am an all day coffee drinker amongst other things and I know that doesn’t help. I will be purchasing this again and I think I might even purchase one of the whitening kits as well.

For my toner I have been using the very cheap T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel which I don’t think I had used in years but am quickly remembering how much i loved it.

Next up is Clean and Clear Morning Burst which I mainly just use in the shower. Other cleanser I have been using have been mainly small sample sizes that I really need to use up.

trilogy eye cream rosehip oil uriage avene thermal spring water

For my eyes I have ben using The Trilogy Eye Contour Cream* that was kindly sent to me. I like that its quite moisturising but because I have monster dark circles I think I need to be using something specifically for that. ( I must say though I’m fairly certain my dark circles are more of a hereditary problem and they are always there no matter how rested I am).

I started using Trilogy Rosehip oil again after BBU as my skin was in the driest condition it had been in for a long time and is a nice product to use after I PMD my face.

The next two are very similar products the Uriage Eau Thermale D’Uriage* that was gifted to me at BBU as well and the Avene Thermal Spring Water (i actually picked two up for $19.95 at Chemist Warehouse!). I love them both, especially in this heat. I originally planned on buying another of the Uriage version to throw into my bag but I couldn’t find it at the shops I was at so got the Avene version instead. The Avene bottle is massive and I cant really carry that around with me though, you know, without looking like a complete nutter.

physicians formula firming and lifting dark spot deep wrinkle

Next up are some Physician Formula skincare goodies I was sent and have been a more recent addition to my skincare routine. Above is the Firming and Lifting Booster*, Dark Spot Corrector and Skin Brightener* and the Deep Wrinkle Corrector Day and Night Cream*. Out of the three I think the Dark Spot Corrector is helping the most but the pump seems to have stopped working even though there is product in the bottle. So I just have to unscrew the lid and tap it out. The Day and Night Cream is also lovely and moisturising but I can’t really comment on whether that or the Booster is really helping with wrinkles so much. I haven’t tried it personally but my sister bought the cleanser from this range and is really enjoying it too.

skin therapy lotion everything balm trilogy hand cream nuxe one and all

On my body I started using the Skin Therapy Lotion from Palmers and although it is very moisturising I just cannot stand the smell of it. But I will keep using it because it does work and I don’t like to waste products. I have also started using Trilogy Everything Balm* again after a brief hiatus. I am loving this for my feet, lips and elbows. I have reviewed it before and I still think its a great all round product. I also started using the Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Hand Cream* I keep it on my desk and always apply it after using the PMD on my hands. Its non greasy and sinks right into my skin.

On my body and hair I have been using the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi Usage Dry Oil*. I mainly use it on my décolletage and scrunch it into the ends of my hair after styling, it hasn’t weighed my hair down at all and give a lovely healthy shine even though my hair really isn’t!

And last up is the One and All Intensive Hand and Nail Rescue that my sister gave the end of the tube for me to try out and it has been insanely hydrating.

The only two pictures of products that are missing from this post are the Phillips Lumea IPL and the PMD which I am still using both but since they have been mentioned last month I saw no need to add them in here.

PMD Microdermabrasion at home –a review

pmd device and replacement discs

You may have read the title and thought what the hell is she doing, microdermabrasion at home….? .As you all know I do love do it yourself projects but I would usually rather a professional treating any major skin issues. But I was just too damn curious about the PMD to pass up the offer of reviewing one of the devices.

Before the PMD arrived I read as many reviews as I could find, watched The Doctors segment and a few other videos and became more and more excited to trial the device. I mean I did come across a few reviews that didn’t rate it highly but from what I could tell from the instructions I had also read a lot of these were more than likely due to them having too sensitive skin, using it more than once a week or holding the device on for too long.

Below is the introduction explaining what microdermabrasion is (much clearer than what I could explain it!).

“The idea behind microdermabrasion is that if you break-apart and remove the dead skin cells on the stratum corneum skin layer, the body will interpret this as a mild injury and rush to replace the lost cells with healthy new ones.

The process benefits the skin in numerous ways. When the stratum corneum is removed, the skin’s surface, tone, and texture is visibly improved. The new cells generated during the healing process look and fell smoother. Many of the skins visible imperfections – such as sun damage, blemishes, fine lines, and dark spots – improve as well.

Without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, skin care products can be fully absorbed and the greater penetration helps maximise the product benefits. Skincare products are up to 20 times more effective when combined with microdermabrasion”

The first time I used the device I was more skeptical than scared but both of those thoughts were gone as soon as I had finished my initial treatment. My skin (I’m sure you’ve all heard me complain about) is dry/combination, I have freckles, clogged pores, plus flakies that makes it extremely difficult for me to get a foundation to sit on my skin flawlessly and smooth. The texture of my flaky skin has always been my main concern. I patch tested my skin with the white training device on a few spots and did my first treatment with the blue disc. There has been no pain, very little to no redness. Basically for me it just feels like a tiny vacuum running across my skin.

Philips Lumea Precision Plus IPL

Today I have a rather exciting product to give you an overview of and my impressions so far, the Philips Lumea Precision Plus IPL hair removal system.

philips lumea precision plus packaging

I am one of those girls that don’t mind waxing, I have gotten used to the pain but I will avoid it as much as possible as I really dislike waiting for the hair to become long enough to wax again. So I usually end up shaving, which is fast but still annoying because I’m also one of those people with extremely fast hair growth (on my legs at least) and could probably shave everyday. So when the opportunity to trial the new Philips Lumea Precision Plus IPL was offered to me I literally jumped at the chance. I have tried IPL before so I already knew what the process was like and I was pretty comfortable with the idea. (more…)

IMATS 2012 Haul

I don’t know why but I actually really despise the word haul but for lack of a better word there it is. I didn’t go as crazy bananas shopping at IMATS 2012 as I was expecting, I had saved up a lot more cash but I was surprisingly reserved with my spending. That being said there are a lot of things I wish I had of bought and a few things I wish I bought more of. First up I wish I had the patience to line up at Inglot but the crowds were insane and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to buy because I’ve hear so many great things about the brand I didn’t know where to start! But onto my purchases.

NEW Total Intensity Eye Shadows by Prestige

packaging prestige total intensity shadows

Prestige launched the new High Impact Total Intensity Shadows Australia wide today (27th Sept 2012).

As the name suggests these shadows are certainly pigmented but also buttery soft and have been a dream to blend! They can be used dry or wet for a more intense colour payoff, so far I’ve only used them dry as the colour payoff for me has been amazing as is.

total intensity high impact shadows by prestige swatch

L to R – Black Magic, Hocus Pocus, Hypnotized, Obsession, Addiction, Bewitched, Crave and Spellbound.

Oh and did I mention they are duo chromes?!? So the Total Intensity Shadows give off this gorgeous multi-colour almost wet looking glow. There are no matte in this collection so to wear I have been blending them out and using my face powder as my highlight, (also great way to blur edges if you go too full on with them). Wear wise there hasn’t been a problem, I’ve still been using a eyeshadow primer underneath, (but I do with all shadows as a precaution anyway). But no creasing or fading issues that I’ve noticed.

If I had to pick a favourite it would have to be Hocus Pocus, its a stunning almost brownish shade that blends out to a kind of burnt colour which gleams green. (Oh my describing skills are severely lacking today it seems!) I’d definitely suggest going into a store and swatching them, they are even prettier than what they look in the photo’s. (These were pretty hard for me to capture).

You can see me wearing Hocus Pocus and Bewitched HERE in my soft smoky eye tutorial, or Hocus Pocus, Spellbound and Crave HERE in my latest volume for hair tutorial. There will be more just need to get better snaps!

Packaging wise they also tick all the boxes for me, they open and close easily and look quite sleek.

Retailing at $18.99 AU RRP, but until 5pm today you can buy one get one free on the Prestige Website! (Just follow the directions below).
