Tip of the Day –

Make up is probably the easiest and cheapest way to vamp up your style or to try new trends. It washes off so any mistakes or looks you don’t love aren’t permanent.

So Mix up your look every once in a while.

Try something new and see how great you feel!

DIY : Palettes From Leopard Notebooks!

Ok I know I tweeted about this probably last week but I took the photo’s uploaded them, and well I deleted them. (or I can’t find them) So I just took some new ones of the project finished!!!

Here they are

The main reason I wanted to do this was to de-palette some of my Estee compacts that I don’t seem to use because I don’t like quads. I also did the 10 pan blush palette and a few other’s I had lying around.

This is the shadow palette. These are again Estee ones, a few pigments I pressed and some other random shadows I didn’t seem to use.

How I made it

These notebooks I got for $2-3 a while ago and I only bought them because they are leopard. I never used them I just liked looking at them, (yes I’m aware I may have a slight problem).

So I took the paper out, saved it for notes.

Covered the inside with that plastic damask material I have so much of .

Then for the edges, I covered plain straws with the plastic and hot glue gunned them on. I added the pink ribbon to tie it closed.

Because I’m so impatient I didn’t attach the shadows/blushes with magnets but with blu-tack instead!

I literally made these with stuff lying around the house .

Hopefully I’ll use this stuff more often now!

(These are no way near air tight and will definitely not be holding cream shadows.

The Reason I chose the plastic  to cover it with is so I can wipe down and clean it, also so if I spray alcohol onto it it wont disintegrate)

Have you ever made your own palettes??

I was given a new video camera for Christmas so I can now do live tutorials, I am however having a few technical issues with editing so please bear with me, it will improve (hopefully) soon!

Decades Past 1960s

From perfectly pale in Swinging England to the surf culture inspired looks of California . The hairstyles, clothes and the first ‘Uber-Model” . The 1960s gave birth to a new era of somewhat individual style  that previous decades constrained.  Times certainly were starting to change . The youths had more disposable income than that of the previous decades and they were starting to be not only seen but heard!

Not surprisingly the contraceptive pill was introduced in the first year of the sexually charged 1960s.

Elizabeth Taylor – The Life

27th Feb 1932

elizabeth taylor

“My mother says I didn’t open my eyes for eight (8) days after I was born but when I did the first thing I saw was an engagement ring, I was hooked.”

Having 8 weddings to 7 men this is a perfect quote to sum up  Taylors personal life.

Taylor became MGM’s top child star in 1944.

Her first Oscar was for her portrayal as a model/call girl in BUtterfield 8(1960). Taylor starred in 70 films and was the first actress to receive one (1) million dollars for a role, it was for Cleopatra.

“If somebody is dumb enough to offer me one (1) million dollars for a role I’m certainly not going to be dumb and turn it down.”

Twiggy – The Face

19th Sept 1949

twiggy 3

Born Leslie Hornby, Twiggy became the first of the ‘Uber-Models”’. The name Twiggy came from her twig like appearance, being one of the first ‘waif’ models.

She has appeared in films stage and even released albums, is a published author several times over, has a clothing and also a bed linen line.

Going from strength to strength, is there anything she can’t do?

“[Disputing Janice Dickison as the world’s first supermodel]: I think it’s up for grabs, really. I certainly was around before her and before me there was Jean Shrimpton For me, the world’s first supermodel is probably Shrimpton because she was my idol.”

Sophia Loren – Sex Symbol

20th Sept 1934

“A woman’s dress should be like a barbed wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.”

Sophia has had a long career  spanning from 1950 and is still acting today.

Loren was often seen as the ‘Italian Marilyn Monroe” and was one of the reigning sex symbols of the sixties.

Hating beauty salons, Loren often did her hair and nails herself.

“Sex appeal is 50% what you’ve got and 50% what people think you’ve got.”

Jane Fonda – Workout Queen

21 December 1937

“Working in Hollywood does give one a certain expertise in the field of prostitution.”

Probably most widely recognised as her role in Barberella (1968), a movie that brought sex to outer space. But is also as an aerobic Icon from her work out video’s and book.

Fonda’s life has been filled with controversy from her political views, protesting and her risqué choice in roles.

Quitting acting during the second half of her marriage to Tom Hayden she then returned to films in 2005 in The Monster-In-Law.

“It’s always great to rehearse on a plane because people think you’re mad.”

Bridgette Bardot – Sex Kitten

28th September 1934

“If I could do anything about the way people behave towards each other, I would, but since I can’t I’ll stick to animals.”

Bardot is an avid animal rights supporter and also has her own foundation for the cause, “Foundation Bridgette Bardot”.

Not limiting herself to acting and animal rights, Bardot also released several songs during the 60s and 70s.

The nickname ‘Sex Kitten’ was given to her as she was always popular with male audiences whether the movie was a hit or not.

“I have always adored beautiful young men. Just because I grow older, my taste doesn’t change. So if I can still have them, why not?”

So many people and events shaped the sixties that its hard to narrow down the list. Vidal Sassoon, Jackie Onassis, Jean Shrimpton, Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy, The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, the clash of the Mods and Rockers, Sophia Lauren, Elizabeth Taylor, Andy Warhol, Mary Quant, the ‘micro mini’ and the summer of love all ending with the grizzly Manson Murders.
