No heat – Wavy Hair
Worried about constant heat styling or can’t get a triple barrel waver? But like my last tutorial using the Babyliss Triple Barrel Waver*?? Well here are a few simple steps that will give you the look, just by braiding!
Step 1: Wash hair (shampoo and condition). When you’re done squeeze out extra moisture with a towel and comb through (with a wide tooth comb or pick) either a leave in conditioner or styling oil (I’m not recommending any here as I feel this is one of those personal hair type choices, you’ll probably know what’s better for you than me here!)
Step 2: When hair is roughly 90% dry prep you’re hair with either a small amount of a volumising mousse or spray. Brush through.
My picks: Garnier Volume Reconstructure Styling Mousse (great hold that you can brush out), Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Mouse* (for a more flexible hold), or Wella High Hair Style Foundation* (for a really light weight option that helps protect your colour).
Step 3: Part hair into 2 sections, straight down the middle and braid each section to the tips. Secure each side with a hair tie.
Alternatively, if you can’t mater the French braid just yet but can do a simple plait part across the back as well so you’re left with four sections. Plait all four sections separately then secure with a hair tie on each.
Leave braids to dry overnight.
Step 4: Before taking the braids out make sure they are bone dry, (as with any wet to dry styling the hair must be completely dry or the style will drop- almost immediately).
If your hair is really thick it may not be dry, if not time permitting wait for it to dry completely or go over your head with your hair dryer finishing with a cool blast of air.
Once dry unravel and shake out the braids.
Step 5: Once undone spray with a texturizing spray, hair spray and/or if you don’t want matte finish a shine spray. When applying scrunch the product into the mid lengths to ends.
My picks: Wella High Hair Ocean Sprizz* (for that perfect matte beachy finish), Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Hairspray* (for light hold) or Schwarzkopf 10 Carat Shine Gloss Finish Spray (for great hold and shine)
And you’re done!
Like using the triple barrel waver this is a super easy way of creating that wavy / beachy look and on the plus side it’s a great way to give your hair a bit of a break from daily heat styling. On the down side this is a style that requires forethought as you kind of have to sleep on it for it to completely dry/set.
It kind of goes without saying that you can use any products you have available to you that do a similar job!
Do you have any requests for future tutorials? What’s your favourite way to style your hair minus the heat?

It’s actually pretty amazing what you can do with braiding or twisting to add texture. Whether the hair is straight, wavy or curly.. gotta love no-heat styles. :]
